How we use AI

We’re against generative AI replacing art. In ProProduction, AI is off unless you turn it on with your own key, it never does your creative work, and people design every part of the tool.

Where we stand

We’re against generative AI replacing art. The script, the boards, the lighting and the choices you make on the day are the art, made by people. ProProduction is built to support that work, never to stand in for it.

Off unless you turn it on

Nothing you put in ProProduction is sent to an AI provider unless you add your own Anthropic API key in Account → AI and then use an AI feature. There is no ProProduction AI key and no fallback to one. Without your key, those features tell you so and nothing is sent.

Your key is stored encrypted. When you use an AI feature, only what that feature needs is sent to Anthropic under your key and their terms. See the Privacy Policy.

Why you bring your own key

We don’t want your data, and we don’t want AI costs built into your plan. With your own key you pay Anthropic directly for what you use, and only when you use it. Keeping AI off our bill is part of why ProProduction costs what it does.

What AI can do in ProProduction

With your key turned on, AI can help with two pieces of typing you’d rather skip:

  • Read a floor plan. Turn a floor plan or room scan PDF into rooms and walls for your setups.
  • Suggest an order for the day. Offer an order for a day’s shots. The AD decides. Without a key, the board suggests an order by its own rules.

It never does your creative work

ProProduction is not a tool that builds your production for you. AI never writes your script, boards your shots, plans your day or picks your cast and crew. The ideas, the frames and the decisions are yours.

The reference library

The figures in the reference library are blank stand-ins, like an artist’s mannequin: faces left blank, no backgrounds, posed so you can block a frame. Many of them are drawn by us with an AI image tool, and each one is checked by a person before it goes in. They’re materials, not the art. What you make with them is.

How ProProduction is built

AI helps us build ProProduction. It never decides what ProProduction is. Every system, every decision, every workflow and every feature was designed by a person, and every change is checked by a person.
