ProProduction and Shot Lister

Shot Lister is an app for Apple devices that does the shot list and live timing on set well. ProProduction does both in a browser, along with call sheets, people, locations and budget. Here’s where each one is stronger.

Who each is for

The short version.

Shot Lister is a good fit if

You want a fast, native app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch for the shot list and live timing that works offline, and you handle call sheets, crew and the budget somewhere else.

ProProduction is a good fit if

You want the shot list tied to everything else (storyboards on your camera’s real gate, lighting setups, call sheets, people, locations and budget) in a browser on any phone or computer, Android and Windows included.

Where Shot Lister is better

  • Native apps on Apple devicesiPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, working offline and syncing later. Ours runs in a browser and only keeps working offline on a page that’s already open.
  • Live timing with a long track recordLive Mode has been the heart of the app for more than a decade, and the Watch app follows the day on your wrist.
  • Big multi-cam shootsUp to 26 cameras on a shot. Ours allows 4.
  • Scriptation syncScript revisions in Scriptation update the scenes in the shot list.
  • More of the live day for freeThe free app includes Live Mode, sync and multi-cam. On our Free plan, only you run the board and crew can view.

Where ProProduction is better

  • Frames for your cameraStoryboard frames on the real gate of 108 camera bodies with 268 lens series, plus lighting setups with real fields of view and fixtures.
  • Any deviceAndroid phones, Windows and Chromebooks as well as Apple devices, and crew open everything from a link with no app or account.
  • More on setTakes with clip names, QR check-in, and camera control for ARRI, RED, Canon and Blackmagic.
  • More ways outCSV in and out, Final Draft and Fountain, Avid ALE and a project archive, not only PDF.

Switching

Switching from Shot Lister

Shot Lister’s current version lists PDF as its export, so the script is the quickest way in.

  1. The scriptImport the same Final Draft or Fountain file you used in Shot Lister, or a PDF or Word file. Scenes, characters and scene numbers come with it.
  2. The shot listPaste rows from a spreadsheet or import a CSV, and each column lands where it belongs. If all you have is the PDF, copy the shots into a spreadsheet first.
  3. The daysDrag shots or whole scenes onto days on the Schedule. On the day, the plan becomes the live board.
