ProProduction and StudioBinder

StudioBinder covers pre-production, from the script to the call sheet. ProProduction covers the same ground and carries it onto the set and into the budget. Here’s where each one is stronger.

Who each is for

The short version.

StudioBinder is a good fit if

You want pre-production paperwork in one subscription: a full script writer with two-column AV scripts, lookbooks and task boards, a call sheet builder with templates and texting built in, and a tool many crews have already used.

ProProduction is a good fit if

You want the plan to carry onto the set: a live board everyone follows, takes and clip names, check-in and camera control. You also want a budget, lighting setups and frames drawn for your camera, at a lower price for a small team.

Switching

Switching from StudioBinder

StudioBinder exports most things as PDF or CSV. Here’s where each one goes.

  1. The scriptImport your original Final Draft, Fountain or Word file, or the PDF StudioBinder exports. Scenes, characters and the title page come with it, and scene numbers stay locked.
  2. Shot lists and contactsExport each as CSV. Import the shot list on the Shot List, where columns are matched by their headings, and the contacts into People (vCards work too).
  3. The scheduleThere’s no stripboard import. Scenes come from the script, so drag them onto days on the Schedule, and the call sheets follow.
